Lurline Bay House
Lurline Bay House presents as a large-scale, five-level, clifftop home in Maroubra, NSW. This commanding residence, perched dramatically between sky and sea, required an interior approach that would honour its architectural boldness while creating genuinely liveable spaces for family life.
The project sought to complement the home's dramatic, brutalist-inspired architecture and spectacular views, while simultaneously introducing the softness and warmth appropriate to a family home. Our solution embraced the structure's monumental concrete elements and expansive glazing, using them as a powerful canvas for more intimate interventions.
A carefully considered material palette introduces organic textures—rich timber, natural stone, and handwoven textiles—that soften the home's strong geometric lines. Custom joinery creates practical storage solutions while maintaining the architectural integrity, and strategically placed lighting transforms concrete expanses into sculptural features after dark.
The result balances architectural drama with domestic comfort—a home as nurturing as it is visually spectacular, where family life unfolds against a backdrop of breathtaking coastal panoramas.
